Decade In The Sun es un recopilatorio de la banda galesa Stereophonics, en el que se recogen canciones de sus seis primeros álbumes de estudio. 

Del debut, Word Gets Around (1997), se incluyen 4 canciones en la edición estándar (Local Boy in the Photograph,  A Thousand Trees, Traffic y More Life in a Tramps Vest) y otras 3 en el segundo CD de la edición especial (Not Up to You, Billy Davey’s Daughter y Same Size Feet). De ese mismo año son también las caras B Carrot Cake and Wine y Raymond’s Shop, incluidas en el CD extra.

De Performance and Cocktails (1999) se incluyen también 4 canciones (The Bartender and the Thief, Just Looking, Pick a Part That’s New y I Wouldn’t Believe Your Radio), a las que se añaden otras 3 en el segundo CD (I Stopped to Fill My Car Up, She Takes Her Clothes Off y Hurry Up and Wait). De ese año es también la versión de Mama Told Me Not to Come que la banda grabó junto a Tom Jones y que fue incluida en el disco Reload (1999) del Tigre de Gales.

Del tercer disco de la banda, Enough Education to Perform (2001), son 5 las canciones incluidas (Have a Nice Day, Mr. Writer, Step on My Old Size Nines, Vegas Two Times y Handbags and Gladrags), pero no se añade ninguna otra en la edición especial. Únicamente se incluye la cara B The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, una aburrida balada en la que participa Jools Holland.

Los siguientes discos de Stereophonics no tienen tanta representación en el recopilatorio como los tres primeros. De You Gotta Go There to Come Back (2003) en la edición normal únicamente está la discreta Maybe Tomorrow, pero en la edición especial se compensa con otras 6 (Madame Helga, Climbing the Wall, Since I Told You It’s Over, Moviestar, Getaway y I’m Alright -You Gotta Go There to Come Back-). 

Language. Sex. Violence. Other? (2005) aporta 3 canciones al recopilatorio (Dakota, Superman y Devil) y otra más a la edición especial (Rewind). Pull The Pin (2007) es el último de los discos de estudio publicados antes de la edición de Decade In The Sun, del cual solo se incluyó la blanda y emotiva It Means Nothing, y otras 3 en el CD2 (Bank Holiday Monday, My Friends y Stone).

La edición sencilla del recopilatorio incluye dos canciones nuevas, dispuestas en la parte central del CD. En mi opinión, son prescindibles en lo que se entiende como un «best of…», pero quizá las incluyeron para promocionar el disco con material inédito. My Own Worst Enemy es una efectiva canción de pop-rock contundente marca de la casa, mientras que You’re My Star, que fue editada como single, muestra una versión más edulcorada de los galeses.

El CD principal de la recopilación -único en la edición estándar-, es una buena muestra de lo mejor de la primera etapa de Stereophonics, un disco más que notable, a pesar de que podría haber sido mejor si no se hubieran apurado los 80 minutos de capacidad del formato. No obstante, lo importante es que reúne los temazos imprescindibles de la banda; More Life in a Tramps Vest (1997) y The Bartender and the Thief (1999) son mis favoritas, seguidas por A Thousand Trees (1997). Local Boy in the Photograph (1997) es otra canción de su debut que me gusta mucho, la inicial Dakota (2005) es un buen hit y también podría destacar la emotiva Step on My Old Size Nines (2001).

El CD2 de la «Deluxe edition» no creo que ofrezca ningún valor añadido al recopilatorio, puesto que pocas de las canciones que incluye alcanzan el nivel de las del primer CD. Tampoco se incluyen demasiadas rarezas o caras B que puedan despertar el interés de los seguidores que ya contaran con la discografía completa de la banda. 

Las canciones del segundo CD que creo podrían haberse colado en la edición estándar son Not Up to You (1997), Getaway (2003), la versión con Tom Jones de Mama Told Me Not to Come (1999) y la cara B Carrot Cake and Wine (1997). El resto son en general canciones que representan bien el pop-rock de Stereophonics, siempre con el valor añadido que aporta la poderosa voz principal de Kelly Jones. La única que se me atraganta es la ya citada colaboración con Jools Holland, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.
